ABA's Annual Memorial Day Weekend Bucking Bull Derby

Matthew White Wins ABA's May 27th Annual Memorial Day Weekend Bucking Bull Derby
by Sheila Totten

The ABA's third TN event was the annual Derby for three year old bulls held Memorial Day Weekend at Circle 13 in Denmark,TN.It was good to see Russell Williams there as the typical rodeo clown.Russ is a real trip..It was good to see everyone and to have clear weather finally. It was announced that Budda Gatons from Illinois was in the lead in the standings. Budda had picked points up by riding in the Missouri events.
I spoke with Trey Allen  and he said his hand is getting better,He was cutting paneling with a skill saw three weeks ago when he nearly cut the hand off.he also said Tye's leg is healing and the bull who got Tye  at the PBR event in Louisville,KY was a trash bull. Rumor has it that said bull is headed to the beef market.
In the Derby a reride can only be given if a bull stops  bucking before the buzzer. The first rider was Altus Dieterlen on Circle 13's Boo, a black bull with a big set of clown stabbers who managed to stick a horn in the gate then went into a flat spin to the right , jumped out of it and bucked straight  down the arena. Altus scored 63.
Jacob Maclin got dusted  buy Rafter C's 3 Coriente. The bull took 4 strong leaps and Jacob was in the dirt.
Circle 13's TNT Dynamite is a good looking typical Plummer. Current ABA Champion Ronnie Maness drew him and scored 68 as the bull faked right then bucked  and loped in a wide left circle .
Cody Nance drew our(Cherokee Wolf Ranch) Cat Five Hurricane. I spoke with Cody before the ride and told him that Hurricane has no set trip but because he bucks hard with a lot of rear end action he needed to stay up on his rope with his chest out.Cody listened  as Hurricane came out with a high leap with rear and drop and bucked in a wide left circle with good kicking action.Cody scored 66.
Colby Criswell drew Circle 13's 14 K Gold Digger who is a very good bull.He turned back at the chute then faked right  then bucked hard straight before bucking in a left circle.Lots of direction change and action. Colby scored 69 and was in the lead.Matt Littrell drew #33 Floyd's Boys (Circle 13) and it was the small bull tall rider syndrome but matt was able to do it.The bull took five leaps straight out then faked right faked left then bucked straight.Matt scored 66.
Robert Milholen drew Rafter C's Amy's Pet who justloped down the arena for 56 points. Remember no rerides in a derby unless the bull quits before 8 seconds.
Blake Climer drew 54 Super Dave 2nd of Circle 13 who I really like. The black bull has a good spin but when he jumped out of the chute into his spin he got too close to the rail and jumped out of the spin and circled left .He's a good little fast bull. Blake scored 68.
Michael Ross drew Circle 13's Recon who had good action as he faked right then faked left then faked back right and left again then bucked left in a semi circle. Michael scored 67.This is yet another young bull with lots of promise and just as good as many of the ones at Tunica.
Brad Wiggins averted a bad wreck aboard Rafter C's  #1 B&W Paint who fell down as he bucked out of the chute. Now this is reason for a reride in the derby.Brad took his reride later on the same bull and made it all the way to 7.8. as the bull bucked straight down the arena with lots of kick.
Michael Collier drew Marvin Littrell's 49% Marvelous Marv who took one leap straight and beat Michael around to the left.
Charlie Mitchell drew Circle 13's EG Get You Some who took one leap out before bucking straight left to dust Charlie.
Mathew White drew Circle 13's Super Dave 1st who took one leap straight out then faked right and bucked to the right in a circle with lots of action. Mathew scored 68.
Steve Kee another PBR lower tier rider(we have several )drew  Circle 13's Jordan's Pet who bucked straight down the arena before faking left then bucked straight again. Stevie scored 66.
Billy Summers drew Circle 13's Star who bucked straight left along the chutes before finally going into a left spin into Billy's hand at the very end of the ride. Billy scored 58.
Budda Gatons  drew Circle 13's White Demon who faked left then faked right then faked left and right again with lots of kick. Budda scored  67. It was great to see Budda's mom Donna McKittrick here. She was doing a great job videoing rides.
Chance Barr came out aboard Circle 13's Jokers Wild  who tossed him off into the chute on the third jump along the chutes.
Kevin Ables came out on CW Ranch's  Who Cat who walked out then went over on his side when he went to buck. Kevin hit his head hard and was out for a bit. he was given a reride  but the contractor pulled the bull so Kevin drew another. The bull took three leaps out then bucked straight left and tossed Kevin off into the chute where he hit his head again.
Brian Brandt drew Rafter C's CCR who just took long leaps straight down the arena for 59.
Ronnie Maness was the first out in the short go aboard LJ Lockjaw. The short go had the proven older bulls and they were good buckers. Lockjaw faked left with high kicks and then made lots of direction changes to finally beat Ronnie around to the left.
Buzzard Bait had Blake Climer off on the second leap out of the chute. These bulls have lots of power.
Full House faked left then spun to the right then jumped out of the spin then went back into a right spin as he traveled across the arena. Michael scored 74 giving him 141 on two head.
Budda drew Circle 13's Prince Albert who faked right then left then right with lots of kick and power and finally made one spin to the right. Budda scored 77 and had 144 on two.
Colby Criswell drew the infamous Jersey Joe who went into a fast spin to the left to toss Colby off. Mathew White drew Circle 13's 2% Milk who spun left away from matt's hand then jumped forward then spun to the right  into Matt's hand again. The big Brahma  has power and energy. Mathew scored 78 and won the event with 146 on two head.
Budda Gatons finished second while Michael Ross was third.
