NAIS-The Raw Deal by Tina Bloom

The following is  an article posted by Tina Bloom and I invite all comments. This is an issue that effects everyone as it is not only an invasion of privacy but  an isssue if implemented that will drive prices for the end products way up.Please read this carefully.

>
>> NAIS the Real Deal
>>
>> The National Animal Identification System is being developed for all animals that will benefit from rapid trace backs in the event of a disease concern. Currently, working groups comprised of industry and government representatives are developing plans for cattle, swine, sheep, goats, horses, poultry, bison, deer, elk, llamas, and alpacas.
>> ( Information provided by http://animalid.aphis.usda.gov/nais/about/index.shtml )
>>
>> In retrospect NAIS might sound like a good idea, however the burden put on the livestock producers, hobby farmers, FFA and 4-H kids might make you take another look. Along with the burden on these people you also have to take a closer look and see that NAIS also violates several Constitutional Rights.
>>
>> The main focus of the NAIS program is to get every single animal registered into a National Database, so that the government can track every animal’s movement. The burden is on the producer who must pay to get the premises registered, pay to get animals tagged/chipped, pay for a RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) reader, pay a yearly premise feeand pay for the paperwork involved in all of this and to do their own paperwork involved.
>>
>> Did you know that every time your animal leaves your property, commingles with animals from another property, and/ or enters another property this has to be reported within 48 hours? You will need the date, time, ID number of the animals, your premises ID, and the premises ID of the property the animals have been transported to, and the commingling of livestock; while the person who owns the property that the animals have been transported also needs to report. There is also a fee associated with reporting an animal’s movement; while there is also a $1,000.00 per day fine for non-compliance with the NAIS program. So if you find that your livestock have gone on a walkabout to the neighbors, both you and your neighbors will have to report to the USDA(United States Department of Agriculture).
>>
>> This is going to be a nightmare for people who compete, show, or have pleasure animals. The show staff will need a separate secretary just to handle the NAIS reports. So will the people who travel with their animals.
>>
>> Imagine how much this is going to cost the consumer. With the cost of tagging animals, paying for the RFID reader, extra time spent doing paperwork, and the time spent making sure where the animals are will drive up the price of meat and dairy products. Basically the more it costs to raise the animal the more the consumer is going to have to pay for the product. Taxpayers need to think about this also; the Government has 33 billion of our tax dollars tied up in this program already. BSE (3 cases) and Hoof and Mouth disease (no documented cases in the U.S. after 1929) are not relevant concerns strong enough to necessitate this program. Neither is the bird flu because, this disease is also carried by migrating wild birds, not just our domesticated birds.
>>
>> Also NAIS is unconstitutional as it violates several of our rights beginning with the First Amendment: Many Christians (as well as persons of other religious beliefs) cannot comply with the Department's proposed program because it violates their First Amendment right to free exercise. For example, the Old Order Amish believe they are prohibited from registering their farms or animals in the proposed program due to, inter alia, Scriptural prohibitions. Fourth Amendment: The NAIS program proposes surveillance on all properties that have livestock and every single animal has to be tagged/chipped with a RFID. Fifth and Fourteenth: NAIS is the first attempt by the federal government at forced registration in a huge, permanent federal database of individual citizens' property (the property where animals are kept) and personal property (the animals) ( Information Provided by http://reliableanswers.com/politics/nais.asp )
>> So you may ask “What does NAIS have to do with bull riding or rodeo?” Like any other cattle producer or horse breeders, the owners of those animals will have to have a premises ID (so will the properties that hold events), RFID tag/chip all their animals, and file daily reports on their animals movements. That means that there will have to be a separate person at events to just process the NAIS paperwork. The owners of the livestock might even have to hire aseparate person to report to the USDA for their own operations. What this means is more time doing paper work, less time working on their stock, and more money out of pocket for the livestock owners. Then it comes down to the fans. If NAIS gets implemented then it will cost more to put on a bull riding or rodeo, so ticket prices will go up.
>> In conclusion, the only people who are going to benefit from this program are the U.S. Government, and the businesses that manufacture the RFID tags/chips and readers. I also do not understand how the Government can expect to keep track of the billions of livestock in this country when they can barely keep track of a piece of mail, shipping container, illegal aliens, ect.
>>
>> NOTE: I am just trying to spread the word on NAIS if you would like more information please contact me off list at twinpinesmt@yahoo.com Also if you forward on this article please give me credit for writing it. Thank you. Tina Bloom, Montana Rancher

Youth Featured Rider-Will Gore

Youth Rodeo Featured Rider
Thirteen year old Will Gore from Mayfield ,KY began mutton bustin' at age two.At seven he was riding steers and added young bulls to that at age eight. He entered Jr. Rodeo at age six where he did Mutton Bustin' ,Steer Riding,Bareback Bronc and Chute Doggin'(first on calves ,now on steers)This is a real all around prospect who has been to the National Finals
His first year steer riding he finished third in KY and took 1st his next year.He also was first in steer riding  in his third and fourth year.He was third in his first year of bull riding.
At age eight Will made it to the National Finals of Little Britches Rodeo where he was third in bull riding and 1st in bareback.Although he confessed to me that bareback was his first choice  he is only riding bulls and chute dogging this year. He went to the MS. Finals and made it to the National Finals by that route. He was 8th in the world  in bull riding and 3rd in bareback. He would love to be another Ty Murray.
At the 2005 KY Jr.rodeo Finals  Will was 3rd in bull riding,1st in bareback bronc and 2nd in saddle bronc. He told me "I'm just kicking butt in bronc riding. Not doing too good in bull riding." as if 3rd is bad! Will has a great smile and is loaded with personality. His smile reminds me of Tuff Hedeman. Will went on to say"At the National Finals I bucked off of all my bulls. I want to be a stock contractor or a bull fighter if I can't make it as a bull rider. Lane Frost and Tuff Hedeman are my heroes."
Will took a break from the action at the season's end and now is back riding. He was second in his first event in Richmond,KY two weeks ago.His friend Steven Back was first.
Will won all around two years in a row and he is aiming  for more titles.

Wiley Petersen Wins BFTS's Omaha,Neb.Event

Wiley Petersen Wins BFTS Omaha,Neb. Event
I am thrilled that my Shoshone-Bannock friend Wiley Petersen won this event.its been a real drought for Wiley lately and hopefully this is the start of a hot event winning streak. This is his first event win since winning four in 2004 and my husband and I witnessed them in person. Wiley was the only rider in Omaha to cover  three bulls in the event.
JW Hart took round one with 88.5 on Frontier Rodeo's King's Court while Dusty LaBeth was second with 87.75 aboard Doug Joseph's Evil Forces. Wiley was third in the round with 86.75 on Berger's Spaghetti.Sean Willingham scored 86.5 aboard Page and Teague's Mossy Oak Break-Up..Hart faced Shallow Hal in the Mossy Oak Shoot Out and failed to make a qualified ride.
Dan Henricks scored 88.75 aboard Squirt Gun  to win round two while Matt Bohon  scored 85 points on Berger/Ryken's Big Red for second place.
Austin Meier who I got to know on the CBR and Xtreme Bulls tour was third with84.75 aboard Berger /Gunderson/Whitford's Big Mack and Corey Navarre was 4th aboard Dixie Chicken with 83.25.
Wiley took a page out of Matt Austin's playbook in this event as he proved that you do not have to win a round to win an event.Just ride every bull and make a good score.
Matt Bohon won the championship round with a great 91.5 ride aboard Berger/Ryken/Loe's Palace Station Deuces Wild.He took over the lead with 176.5 on two head. Wiley was the 12th to ride  and he faced Page and Teague's Bo Time who had unseated Wiley last year in Reno. Wiley rode Bo Time jump for jump and made no mistakes this time while earning a score of 89.25 which would eventually give him the event title.
Sevi Torturo scored 91 on P&T's Red One  and was second in the round Wiley was third and Hugo Pedrero scored 88.5 on Hebert's Shane  to place fourth.
In the overall standings Wiley won the event with 255.75 while winning $28,136. Matt Bohon was second  while Sevi Torturo was third .Brian Herman was fourth. Adriano still leads the standings with Mike Lee right behind.
Jason Bennett dislocated his shoulder and cannot compete.JW Hart has a possible fractured ankle and is questionable for  Albuquerque while Cody Whitney has a possible sprained neck .Cody was not listed on the PBR's latest injury updates.

PBR Event Results And News

Recent PBR News
Congratulations to PBR World Champion Justin McBride and his lovely wife Jill on the birth of their new baby girl. She was born on March 20th at 8:09 am and weighed 8 pounds 2 ounces while measuring 19 3/4
inches long .According to Justin's web site both Jill and  Addisen Claire are doing great.
The PBR has so many events  at this time of year that I am going to summarize the past few BFTS events.Mike Lee is on a roll and he won his third event
title as the PBR roared through  Kansas City ,Mo. with the Cabella's Classic event March 10-12.Mike was the only man to ride all four bulls, and was in the lead going into the short go.He  scored 89.25 aboard Page and Teague's Holy Moly who took two leaps out  of the chute then spun  to the left before reversing back right.Mike  is always very focused an he has his eye on another title.
Jason Bennett won the first round with 91 points aboard Diamond S ' Cat Daddy.Cody Whitney was right behind him in second with 88.25 aboard Berger/Ryken/Loe's Palace Station Deuces Wild.Sean Willingham scored 87  aboard Frontier Rodeo's Silent Angel and was third while Dan Henricks scored 86.75 on the Berger /Ryken bull Dixie Chicken. Bennett faced Frontier's  Rocket Man in the Mossy Oak Shoot Out  but failed to ride him.
Travis Briscoe and Mike White tied  at 89.5  to top  round two.It was Briscoe on Dixie Chicken while Mike White scored aboard the Berger/Ryken /Loe bull Gold Ball Wine. Chris Shivers tied for 3/4  with Luke Snyder.Chris was 89 aboard Chad Berger/ Larry Ryken's Peanuts while Luke scored 89 aboard their Rockin Robin. As previously reported it was during the Mossy Oak Shoot Out aboard the bull we all knew as Leroy that Mike White broke his back. The bull who now is Bill and Betty Morrison/Page and Teague's  had his name changed to The Boogerman which certainly fits. Mike is recuperating at home and we wish him well.
Matt Bohon won round three aboard Lemmon's Splat Kat  with 90.25.I have to say I really don't like this quarter point system and having an extra judge has not helped  to end the catching the loop controversy!
Greg Potter was second aboard Haines/Owen' Pandemonium with 88.75 while Brian Herman was 88 aboard Frontier Rodeo's White Line Fever. Jody Newberry was fourth aboard Stokesbury/Thorsell/Owen's Freightliner with 86.75.They beat me to the punch with that name as my husband's rig is a Freightliner.
It was Brian Canter  who won the championship round with 91 points on Page and Teague's Hear's Your Sign.Mike Lee was second aboard their Holy Moly with 89.25. The overall finish was:
1) Mike Lee (Decatur, Texas) 341.5 points, $41,744; 2) Brian Canter (Randleman, N.C.) 258 points, $18,290; 3) Guilherme Marchi (Leme, Sao Paulo, Brazil) 248.25 points, $9,124; 4) Jason Bennett (Honeygrove, Texas) 177.25 points, $8,130.
Adriano Moraes remains in first place in the standings ahead of Mike Lee  withGuilherme marchi third and Chris Shivers fourth.

And for those who thought Jerry Nelson had too many bulls at Tuff Hedeman's  Championship Challenge (CBR) in Ft.Worth this weekend-best look at how heavy the KC bullpen was with Page and Teague  bulls. And it was a Page and Teague bull-Red One-who won the Salem National Lease's Bonus.Teague owns the trucking company Salem Nat'l. Lease so to those  who complained about Jerry need I say more!
There were quite a few injuries aside from Mike White.Bowdy Peach has a groin tear and will be out 4-6 weeks while Ross Coleman had a severe concussion with loss of consciousness and will miss 4-6 weeks also.
And if I neglected to mention it  Brett Haber is gone for good! His  crass remarks  when he thought his mike was off about Herman and also his later bad taste remark  made when Willy Ropp lay unconscious on the arena floor added fuel to the fire.No concern for the rookie was shown.Haber was mad that the event would be delayed and cause him to miss his red-eye flight back to D.C.If OLN had listened to the fans back in 2003 and certainly by 2004  Haber would have been gone along time ago. They even ignored fan petitions to remove him .
Sean Willingham won his third event title of the season at Tacoma,WA.Previously Sean had won  the Portland ,Oregon and Reno ,Nevada events; and is having a great season.Like two years ago Adriano Moraes remains in first  ahead of Mike Lee in the standings in spite of nagging injuries.
Willingham edged out Jody Newberry for the event title by just 3.25 points. It was Sean's great 91 point ride aboard Kelly Bowcutt's Scream that clinched the victory.Jody rode Corey and Horst's Patient for 86 points which was not enough. Dustin Hall bucked off of Paradise Farms Rodeo Genetics' Jeopardy  which  ended the round. So far only Mike Lee and Chris Shivers had won three events so far this season. The win shot Willingham up to 4th place in the standings.
Cody Whitney won round one with 89.75 aboard Flying U/Moreno's Werewolf Snuff but bucked off of their great Reindeer Dippin in the Mossy Oak Shoot Out at 7.7 -a real heartbreak for Cody but a lesson to the naysayers on Josh Peters' blog who have given Reno Rosser a hard time.Love ya Cody but love Reindeer too! Montgomery County,TN's Cory Rasch made an eventful comeback by finishing second on C&H's 3 Spot with 88.25 points while Cord McCoy was third with 87.5 on Johnny Hoyle's Tar Baby.  Dustin Hall tied with Dusty LaBeth for 4/5  with 87.Cord rode  Mike Solomon's Ditto while Dusty rode Bowcutt's Pistol Case.
JW Hart won round two with 89 aboard Diamond G's Whompin Willow while Corey Navarre was second with 88 aboard Ditto.Adriano Moraes scored 86.75 aboard Diamond G's White Rose for thirdwhile Jody Newberry was 4th aboard Paleface. with 86.
Sean Willingham topped the event and championship round with his 91 points aboard Scream.Kody Lostroh was second in the round and third in the average with 88.25 aboard Diamond G's Orange Crush Jr. Francisco Felix was third with 86.5 aboard PFRG's Camo and 4th in the average. Jody Newberry was 4th in the round with 86 on C&H's Patient and second in the average.
No sooner did Cory Rasch make his comeback then he was sidelined again. On Saturday he aggravated his right shoulder injury and will be out for an indeterminate length of time with a strained right rotator cuff. Travis Briscoe injured his left elbow (riding arm) and will not be riding at Ty's event. He is out for an indeterminate length of time.
Luke Snyder broke his right fibula  but is competing.
Rookie Matt Pojanowski sustained a concussion with a loss of consciousness and is out of action.
Willy Ropp is out with a deep thigh bruise.

Brett Haber-Unveiled

When Brett Haber accused this reporter of trying to get him fired from the PBR broadcasts back in March of 2004 at The Tuff Hedeman Championship Challenge due to comments in my columns I decided to check out the braggart's  past. Meanwhile he had in fact written to my editor and CEO trying to really get me fired as he called my negative comments about his use of archaic and snobbish language  was unprofessional The report I came up with but never published showed Haber  making it a habit  to blame other reporters ,producers and co-workers every time he got into trouble at previous jobs. Seems he never got along with co-workers due to his enormous ego. When a writer wrote about his bad behavior at the US Open when he worked for ESPN in 1994 Haber claimed then that writer was trying to get him fired.Haber was suspended over an argument with a producer over a tie at the event.Haber it seems never wanted to do  things the way superiors wanted ,including  refusing to wear a cowboy hat at PBR events. After the suspension he accused the producer of trying to get him fired. He was ordered to apologize to the producer but refused. Prior to ESPN he had been released from other contracts in NY.Then it was Fox in Washington,D.C. where his contract was not renewed. Then it was a CBS affiliate in NY where off air behavior  infuriated station heads.Haber then took it upon himself to edit out a section of the Super Bowl piece in 2001 which violated  the editor's union contract and a grievance was filed. Haber was fired in 2002. He was referred to a smart aleck for his comments even then. He then moved to a D.C. morning radio talk show where Internet reports showed conflicts there.OLN hired him in late 2003  where they placed him on the PBR broadcasts .There was no need for that and the fans had loved the team of Justin McKee and Tuff Hedeman.OLN further aggravated fans during the PBR  Finals when they inserted more of their  ivy league reporters into broadcasts.
Haber repeatedly has bragged about his local AFTRA chapter Emmy awards using his Emmys as the reason he was so much better than Justin or even Bob Tallman.Hmmm Bob has made it into the Cowboys Hall of Fame as an announcer-don't see Haber in any equivalent.
When W/CBS fired Haber the Daily News reported: “Haber seemed to struggle to find the right tone for the newscasts. His ESPN-like smart-aleck approach to sports didn’t endear him to many in the newsroom, which may have led to the end of his tenure there.’’
Haber recently took a job as the weeknight sports anchor on the D.C. CBS affiliate which made fans hope he would quit OLN.No such luck till his own mouth  caused him to be fired from OLN. With a track record like Haber's you would think he would have learned by now but apparently he never has learned.

I invite all readers to comment on the articles here . If there are points you want to make feel free.

OLN Finally Fires Brett Haber

After two and a half years of fans complaining about him to both the PBR and OLN , Brett Haber is gone.OLN Fires Brett Haber Finally
It was the ultimate last straw that broke the proverbial camel's back when Brett Haber  made controversial remarks in the PBR's  broadcast booth that were heard by riders and others on Saturday,February 18 when Haber thought his mike was off. Although OLN's director of public relations Amy Phillips would neither admit nor deny that Haber had been fired she issued the statement :, “We apologize for what transpired at the PBR event Saturday in Portland and Brett Haber will no longer be a part of OLN’s PBR telecasts.’’ The immediate response was an explosion of joy and relief from many PBR fans . Ever since Haber was brought on board, the fans had complained to both OLN and the PBR.He just was not a cowboy, didn't want to be a cowboy and did not fit in. In fact ,if anything , he seemed to look down his nose at the cowboys and was very sarcastic.
It was during a commercial break in the telecast with the audio feed still on Haber boomed:"Nod your head you f—— hillbilly. You’re not going to ride anyway.’’as Brian Herman struggled to get out of the chute aboard Black Sports Coat Brian ended up with a reride but before that happened Haber's comments were heard over the in- arena TV monitors. This meant that riders in the locker room heard them as well as fans who were out on the concourse at concession stands.Later that night as Willy Ropp lay injured on the arena floor and it was clear that  his injuries would cause a delay Haber was heard to complain that the delay would cause him to miss his flight; and Brendon Clark who was a guest in the booth was furious for Haber's total lack of regard for the injured rider.
As the event ended  Brian Herman, along with Chris Shivers,JW Hart and Mike Lee went looking for Haber. They were intercepted by OLN producer Joe Loverro ; and it took him 30-45 minutes  to calm the riders down. When  Haber finally emerged he was all apologies and tried to tell Brian it was not aimed at him-just a broad statement. There were no fisticuffs this time and Haber lucked out to only end up losing his job.
I kept quiet about my own run-in with Haber for over two years. His disdain for cowboys  was intense. Many fans had complained to me that they hated  Haber being part of the broadcast team and wanted it back to Tuff and Justin McKee at thattime. When fans complain and they get no response from the PBR I comment in my columns in the way of a word to the wise as I know people like Randy Bernard would read it and know fans were troubled.I made light of some incidents and used a Jay Leno style tongue in cheek  about some of Haber's comments and the snotty language idioms he used. When I was unable to find Haber anywhere at the Atlanta event I referred to him as being invisible. For this he literally took my head off verbally back of the arena by the PBR office at Tuff's event in Fort Worth. In front of riders and other people  he was loud and aggressive  while I remained cool, calm and soft voiced.Several friends among riders and other personnel looked about ready to jump him and I had to shoot"No" looks to them although I appreciated their concern.I just kept telling Haber that the fans were complaining and I had the right as a reporter to air their complaints and my own opinions also.Haber kept yelling I was trying to get him fired.
I walked away to find where we were to sit to report on Tuff's event and not five minutes later there was Haber begging me to sit and listen to him , get to know the real Brett Haber. He had been read the riot act by someone I will always remain grateful to but whose identity I will not reveal without permission. It was in this conversation that he cried on my shoulder about needing this job for his wife and son's welfare.I told him if he read between the lines he would have  seen it as a word to the wise and realized what he was doing to aggravate the fans.He then put down the class of fans who were loyal PBR followers from day one and flat said the PBR hierarchy and OLN wanted to bring in a more sophisticated type of fan;that the PBR needed to appeal to more than southerners. When I pointed out it carried universal appeal he ignored that. He then said OLN brought him in to make the broadcast more professional and said neither Tuff nor Justin were professional or even decent arena announcers; and that they were too southern! He then downed Donnie Gay and Bob Tallman. No one in his own mind could compare with him.He begged me to  give him a chance and told me he was studying terms ,etc.I felt sorry for him so I agreed and  asked people to give him a chance in my column. I was unaware at the time he had really tried to get me fired.I rarely went to Indian Rodeo News' guest book and he had written in there blasting me as being unprofessionalwith my remarks about him.I never saw it because our webmaster and editor pulled the remarks but not before loyal readers including  my wonderful Shoshone-Bannock rider friend from Idaho told me to keep up the good work in the guest book. Then an e-mail was sent to the editor and at that time Mike Moore sent a very hot reply to Haber in my defense. I was a prized reporter there and was never allowed to see Haber's demeaning remarks. After the event Haber sent another e-mail to the guest book using a fictitious name and that was traced using microsoft  equipment to Haber's laptop according to my superiors at IRN.
Well the problem is now gone and this reporter  is happy.
OLN has ordered its employees not to talk about Haber's dismissal as they gird themselves for a potential lawsuit because Haber had one more year left on his contract at $200,000 but   who is to blame?Haber erred in making the remarks. He was unprofessional.Did  OLN err by not shutting off Haber's mike during the commercial break?Cardinal rule is always act as if your mike is live so....
Once again we now have a good team  for the broadcasts.Michael Gaffney and Justin McKee know what they are talking about.Occasional guest spots by riders or former riders add to the flavor of the current broadcasts. Here's hoping OLN will not bring another unsuitable suit into the action.
It was reported that on February 20th Haber told OLN he would be at the St.Louis broadcast and OLN immediately looked into security for Haber VS  the possibility of firing him without having to pay the remainder of his contract. He was pulled from the broadcasts.OLN announced he had been fired on February 22nd.
I didn't make any PBR events at all in 2005  after  always attending.Haber was a big reason.I  knew Haber would make a smart remark about Tuff being gone and  the fur would fly so as not to embarrass Randy or anyone else I reported from Press releases and TV.I did attend other events where riders and others voiced their dislike of Haber and begged me to start to tear him up a la Jay Leno in my columns. My editor said go for it but....And The riders were all ones he claimed on air to be friends with.Seems lots of his so called new friends could not stand him and I even heard complaints from PRCA riders..
What goes around comes around Brett! And in this reporter's opinion and that of so many fans Tuff was much better on the broadcast; and now that Tuff has the CBR the team of Michael Gaffney and Justin McKee is a vast improvement over Brett.

NC's JB Mauney Wins Event Championship At Tuff Hedeman's Championship Challenge

NC's JB Mauney Wins The Texas Ford Dealers' Tuff Hedeman Championship Challenge Event Championship Title.

In front of a full house that included his parents, NC's JB Mauney took it down to the wire and won the event with 263 points. He said he felt his folks were his good luck charm as he took home $22,270 in spite of a nagging ankle injury that has haunted him for the past three weeks.Mauney stated that the injury helped to keep him focused in the right direction.
JB rode the BR bull Walk The Line in round 2 for 83 points to add to his score of 89 from the round one.In the short go he faced R/W's Georgia Sun and scored 91.JB was the only rider to cover three during the event. BJ Schumacher had entered the short go in the lead and JB had to wait for BJ ,Hugo Pedrero and Dave Samsel to ride before he knew he was the victor.
Ronnie Kitchens won round two aboard R/W's Renegade with 89.5 but bucked off of BR's Copperhead Slinger in the short go. Ronnie was seventh in the average. He advanced to second place in the CBR standings just $13,870 behind Matt Austin.
BJ Schumacher was second in the round with 89 points aboard R/W's Big City and he finished second in the average with 179.Byron Walker's Blackberry Wine bucked BJ off in the short go.Just love this Blueberry Wine son.You could tell it was a "Tuff" competition as only Mauney rode all three head and only five others rode two.
JC Bean was third in the round with 87.5 aboard Thomas Taylor's  Chilly but bucked off of R/W's Mean Machine in the short go. Marcus Michaelis was fourth in the round with 87 aboard Taylor's China Grove but got ko'd by Kevin Loudamy's Uncle Charlie in the short go.To make matters worse Uncle Charlie came back and flung Michaelis twenty feet. The crowd was hushed as the rider lay unconscious and had to be carried out on the stretcher.Seems I saw a similar wreck here two years ago.Michaelis regained consciousness in the Lane Frost Sports Medicine Room and was sent to the hospital for observation. He  suffered a concussion with a cut that needed to be sutured  and  he was released.
Clayton Williams tied for 5/6/7 in the round with 86.5 on Jerry Nelson's Society's Child and he was thrilled to draw Jerry's World Champion Big Bucks in the short go.Even though Big Bucks won the match Clayton was happy to have lasted 5 seconds on the great bull. He said he made the error of starting to think at that point and you just cannot do that on Big Bucks,
Super Dave Samsel tied with Clayton and Wesley Silcox with 86.5. Dave rode CW's Camo Kat and entered the short go with 172 points. CBR Bull of the Year  R/W's Biloxi Blues beat Dave out in the short go and Dave finished 5th in the average.
Wesley Silcox scored his 86.5 aboard Lufkin Ranch and Rodeo's Surprise but had a terrible get off as he hung up and Surprise stepped on Wesley's ankle and elbow.Wes was unable to take his short go ride but thankfully has no serious injury. His spot in the short go should have gone to Jarrod Craig but WS' Stacy's Pet had other ideas. In another scary wreck the bull stepped on Jarrod's chest and he was sent to the hospital for observation and treatment. As of the 13th he was still in the hospital with 2 broken ribs and a punctured lung and was expected to be released at the end of the week. Rocky Farrington got to fill the spot in the short go.
Hugo Pedrero made a good showing this weekend and finished  eighth in the round and 4th in the average.Hugo scored 85.5 aboard another great R/W bull Poison Ivy but Thomas Taylor's great bull Smokeless War Dance tossed  the rider off.
CBR /PRCA World Champion Matt Austin was the only rider besides Mauney to make a qualified ride  in the short go as he rode R/W's Vertical Limit for 88.5.Matt was third in the average with176.5 and added to his lead in the standings.Matt is currently first in first place in the CBR ,PRCA and PRCA's Xtreme Bulls once again!
Travis Sellers rode Nelson's  Devil's Reject for 81.5 but was thrown off by Nelson's California Dreamin.Travis still finished 6th in the standing with 171 thanks to Saturday's 89.5 ride.
McKennon Wimberley finished eighth in the average with 88.5 he scored in round one Saturday. The score got him into the short go but Thomas Taylor's Pandora's Box got the best of McKennon.
After the event Tuff complimented the riders and was quoted in the CBR press release as having said:“These guys rode hard over the last three days. We put a lot of competition on their plate as well as a lot of media and fan pressure.  That’s why these guys have made it to the top – they have earned the right to ride before thousands of people and continue to prove they are the best athletes in the sport.”
The next CBR event will be held April 29th in College Station,Texas as part of the CBR Bull Bash 2006 tour.

B.J. Schumacher Wins Round One of The Tuff Hedeman Championship Challenge

It was a night of fast and furious action in Ft Worth as Round One of the Texas Ford Dealers Tuff Hedeman Championship Challenge Presented by Coors Light Event. There were  only 14 qualified rides in the round as the great pen of bulls amassed by CBR President Tuff Hedeman tossed cowboys every which way,
When the dust cleared it was B J Schumacher who won the round aboard Scotty Burris' Tombstone with a 90 point score.BJ earned the the chance to ride the bounty bull Jerry Nelson's World Champion Big Bucks in The Match of Champions for $10,000.Things looked good until 3.5 seconds when Big Bucks zigged when BJ zagged. As BJ lost his balance he caught his spur in the rope and found himself under Big Bucks in a scary predicament. He suffered a possibly broken foot but the Wisconsin rider  cowboyed up and said the injury would not keep him from riding Sunday. This is one heck of a "Tuff" cowboy!
Second in the round was MO's Travis Sellers with 89.5 aboard MC's(Merrick) Back Draft.Half a point behind him came NC's JB Mauney aboard Wes Bruce's Detour.McKennon Wimberley of Cool,Texas was 4th aboard Frontier Rodeo's Society's  Child with 88.5 points and I bet his daddy Joe was happy. Current CBR/PRCA World Champion and one of the nicest guys  riding today,Matt Austin tied for 5/6/7 in the round with 88 points aboard Robertson/Wilson's Renegade.Illinois bull rider  Mike Moore tied with Matt  at 88 after riding Scotty Burris' CowTown. Mexican rider Hugo Pedrero was the third rider in the tie aboard Johnny Hoyle's Scarface.Texas' Howdy Cloud was 8th with 86.5 points aboard Lufkin Ranch and Rodeo's Torque.
All in all it was quite an action filled first round with such great bulls as SB's Del Rio(Dave Samsel-85.5),Lyndall Hurst's Bobby Knight,Kevin Loudamy's Uncle Charlie(dusted World Champion Cody Hancock) and his Silver Select, David Bailey's Smokeless Super Cool( bucked off Ronnie Kitchens),Jerry Nelson's Slobber Knocker( beat Jarrod Ford), and just so many others .
Elsie and Clyde Frost were at the event;and I am sure a certain red head from Albuquerque probably was too-Tuff's wonderful momma, Clarissa Hedeman who is usually accompanied by his sister Mary. Also there were former World Champion Calf Roper Ernie Taylor and Asst. Chief Mike Bailey of the Choctaw Nation.2004 World Champion Steer Wrestler Luke Branquinho was just another of the rodeo world's top guns  at the event.

Mike White

I want to wish Mike well and let him know he is in my prayers. On Saturday night at the PBR's Cabella Classic in KC Mike won round two and headed into the Mossy Oak Shoot-Out to face the Page and Teague  bull Leroy. Mike was bucked off and landed hard on his head .He suffered a broken neck and broken back as he broke one of the joint surfaces of C-1 and also broke T-3 and T-4.He remained in the hospital in KC through the evening of the 14th when it was arranged to have him flown back to Texas.Mike was fitted with a special brace which he will have to wear for 3-4 months and is in lots of pain. Please keep this tough cowboy in your prayers.

Never Mind Me

Up until today I have never been a fan of Big and Rich.I did like their first hit because of the Native American theme but I was disappointed with "Save A Horse, ride A Cowboy" and"Coming To Your City".Neither of these are country;and ghetto pronunciation of words like city, etc just do not fit in with country music.Today I was pleasantly surprised when I heard  their "Never Mind Me" on the Today Show. Its a good country pop ballad and sounds great. I loved it and I hope Big and Rich do more music like this. And if they are going to do more hard hitting rocking country I wish they would dispense with the phony ghetto speak.

If you say you are country than be country even if you rock the roof off  like Bocephus or Charlie Daniels do!They remain country. And like Big and Rich, another member of their "Music Mafia" Gretchen Wilson can really hit the heart with her country ballads. That woman can sing any style of country from rocking country to tear in your bear style. To sum it all up,this former anti Big and Rich reporter has become a new fan!

Controversial Subjects on Josh Peters' Fried Twinkie Blog

Josh has stirred up quite a bit of controversy on his blog about the PBR .There are questions about the "hooking the rope" rule, the  Board of Directors,  Randy Bernard's award and even some bulls.Pros and cons on all subjects; and it seems to be replacing the long defunct PBR Forum with one improvement.Among the participants in these responses to Josh's articles are long time (now retired) PBR gateman Jinx, and stock contractors Jerry Nelson and Reno Rosser. Its great to see them there. If you want to get involved  jump right in and enter the fray.I have;and I am working up a topic  that Josh asked me to research and write up.hope to see you there.

Ronnie Kitchens Tops Field Friday At The Tuff Hedeman Championship Challenge

Although The Tuff Hedeman Championship Challenge did not begin until Friday  night fans at Billy Bob's got an extra treat when CBR President Tuff Hedeman tried to teach CBS Features Reporter Dave Price to  rope a  dummy steer and ride a real bull during the two hour live coverage of the rodeo at Billy Bob's Texas. On Friday morning the CBR  got free coverage on The CBS Early Show when their fans and all viewers got a real surprise when they were shown the video of Price and Tuff . Price referred to Tuff as "the Michael Jordan of the rodeo world ". I think he has that backwards as Tuff attained World Champion status way before Jordan .As far as this reporter is concerned Michael Jordan is the Tuff Hedeman of the Basketball world! And Tuff, who just turned 43 a week ago is the Dick Clark of the rodeo world!
Tuff, who has become very at ease behind the mike made some cute remarks as he tried to get Price to mount Jerry Nelson's World Champion bull Big Bucks.Tongue in cheek he said"I've got all the confidence that you can be the first guy to ride him this year - successfully,"as Big Bucks acted antsy in the chute and Price got nervous. You can go to the CBR site and  click onto the live coverage of the video.Fans will love it!
At the actual event country newcomer, Columbia Nashville  artist Trent Willmon sang The National Anthem. With Tuff for all pre and post event  activities was his close friend Nashville singer/songwriter Charlie Robison. If the last name is familiar to you it may be because  Charlie's beautiful ,talented wife is Emily Robison of The Dixie Chicks.
On Friday night it was veteran rider Ronnie Kitchens who took the lead with his round winning ride aboard Blackberry Wine for 92.5 in the short go.Ronnie had  181.5 for the night. Although Friday night  is a prelim to the Saturday/Sunday event Ronnie could win an additional $20,000 if he were to win all three days.Just one of the many bonuses Tuff and his longtime partner Ron Pack  have for the riders.
Friday night always is loaded with fun for the fans . At intermission  the Celebrity Butt Busters was held.Brother Van of KSCS won the event for the second year in a row with 86 points. After his ride  he put a bike helmet on and got into the barrel for the remainder of the contest.
Past Champion Dave Lieber(FW Star telegram) was second with 84 points while Dave Coker (Coors) finished 3rd with 82.Crown royal's Dan Shuff was 4th with 78 points and  Jeremy Robison(96.7-The Twister)was 5th with 76 points.Radio Disney's Jay Jenson took a reride and was fouled so no score .
Excitement was fueling the crowd as they watched the Friday event.Going into the short go the leader board read:
COOPER KANNGIESSER,Zenda,KS Ladies Man  OW 90 $1,207.80
RONNIE KITCHENS,Mansfield,TX Cat Daddy TW 89 $915.00
JARROD CRAIG,Hillisboro,TX El Lobo B/G 88 $549.00
KOLT MILLER,Converse,TX  Billionaire DB 88 $549.00
J C BEAN,Goldendale,WA Show Off R/W 87.5 $256.20
DUSTIN ELLIOTT,Tecumseh,NE Camo Kat CWL 87 $183.00
WESLEY SILCOX MOON KAT LRR 86.5
ZACK OAKES SNORTIN HORTON TW 86
CODY HANCOCK BLACK SABBATH SO 85.5
CURTIS SEAMANS RATTLER FR 85
The short go really had fans on the edges of their seats as there were three 90+ rides and three high eighties rides plus some  energetic buck-offs.Jerry Nelson's Calif Dreamin made quick work of  Cole Echoles while Harlan Robertson/Henry Wilson's Mean Machine  sent Marcus Michaelis off early. Lee Woolsey  was a victim of R/W's Cajun Moon and Vernon Guidry's energetic Snuff's Hot Damn sent Curtis Seamans flying.Kevin Loudamy's Cha Ching got the best of Wesley Silcox and DB's Smokin Gun won the match with JC Bean.Kolt Miller  was bested by R/W's Georgia Sun while Wes Bruce's Dash Cat got Jarrod Craig.Cooper Kanngiesser who lead going into the short go was knocked out of that lead by R/W's Apache.
The first qualified ride in the short go was McKennon Wimberley's great looking 91.5 ride aboard BR's Copperhead Slinger.McKennon  rode Frontier Rodeo's Who Would Know for 83 points in the long go and tied for 3/4/5 in the average with 174.5 on two head and I bet daddy Joe was grinning from ear to ear.He was followed by one of my all time favorites at Tuff's event ,former event champion Dave Samsel.Dave scored 90.5 aboard CBR World Champion Bull R/W's Biloxi Blues.Incredible  trip! Dave has been riding hot  in the CBR and  he could give the top runners a real run for their money.Dave rode Owen Washburn and the Five ladies' Ladies man  for84 points in the long go.Third man in the tie was PRCA World Champion Cody Hancock and he had a great night with first his solid 85.5  ride aboard SO's Black Sabbath and then his 89 point ride aboard WS' Stacy's Pet.Good going Cody! Zack Oakes was 6th in the average with  86 aboard Terry Williams' Snortin Horton and rode R/W's Roscoe for 87 in the short go.PRCA's 2004 World Champion Dustin Elliott was  6th on the leader board  with 87 on CWL's Camo Kat going into the short go but scored 89.5 aboard JS' Cooter in the short go to finish  in second place with 176.5.Then came Ronnie Kitchens great 92.5 ride aboard BW's  Blackberry Wine. What can I say. That gave Ronnie a whopping 181.5 on two and the win.If he should win Saturday and Sunday he would win a bonus of $20,000. I have to say Ronnie is riding hot right now.And its great to see a rider overcome the injuries and complications that Ronnie has overcome. I wish him the best.

Josh Peters Ideas About The Controversial Hooking The Loop Rule

Just read Josh Peters' latest entry on his Fried Twinkies Blogg. Once again (this time by Jim Bob Custer) Jody Newberry was DQ'd for intentionally hooking the bull rope loop with his spur.Hmmm,Jody did not have a loop with the new style  rope he's using! Well,Josh has a good solution for the PBR Board meeting  this week in KC.He suggested  that the word intentional be taken out as it automatically puts riders on the defensive. He also brought out the fact that the two most controversial calls against Jody were called way after Jody excited the chute. This should be called immediately as its just like the spur out rule. There is no disqualification if the rope gets hooked during the ride .Cody Lambert waited until 6 seconds into the ride at the 2005 Finals while Jim Bob waited until three seconds into the ride.Seems to me maybe both were waiting to see if Jody would buck off and the call would be immaterial then.Something needs fixing  this weekend.Fans are getting even more disgruntled that the  riders. Maybe we need a "coach's challenge" like in football but make it a rider's  challenge and  use the tapes as an instant replay for all the judges to study.Something needs to be done and so far the best idea has come from Josh!

Prayers for Rob Smets Speedy Recovery

Rob Smets  was tossed through the air at the PBR's BFTS event in St Louis  by Cat Daddy three weeks ago.Rob separated his shoulder but was heard to say over his mike:"at least I didn't land on my neck" On March 3rd  at the Reno-Tahoe event  Rob did come down on his neck when Stinger flipped him high up in the air.Rob was fitted with a cervical collar as a precaution and carried out of the arena on a backboard and promptly sent to the Washoe Medical Center for evaluation.Rob broke  C7 and went for further evaluation once back home in Texas. He was operated on yesterday and is out for an indeterminate length of time.

They took a piece of bone from his hip to graft to his neck for a spinal fusion. Now comes recovery and therapy.Rob,who had announced he would retire  at the PBR Finals this season may have to move that up.I pray he makes a full recovery and can end the season in good health but  if not then I sure hope he gets a broadcast position. Get well,Rob.We all love you!

Birthdays

I have already wished Tuff Hedeman a very Happy Birthday.Hard to believe the man is 43.He looks like he is still 23! Also having a birthday this week are tow of my other favorite guys Wiley Petersen and Ross Coleman..Happy Birthday guys!

CBR News March 9th

CBR News
CBR Wins Outdoor Channel's Golden Moose Award 2nd Consecutive Year.
At the 6th Annual Golden Moose Award Ceremony in Las Vegas a very happy and proud CBR National Director Justin Monson accepted the Fan Favorite Special Interest Award. In the CBR release Justin was quoted as saying:Winning this award for the second year in a row really says something about how far we have come in a very short time." And how true Justin's words are.
Fans vote for the awards every year so it is really significant that the CBR now has won this two years in a row. They pack so much excitement into only one hour that the fans love their show. This year's Las Vegas celebration  included such celebrities as Country Music's Joe Diffie and outdoor show  stars as Ted Nugent,Michael Waddell and Hank Parker. The CBR was the first  show to broadcast in High Definition and can be seen  three times/week on SDTV and 7 times on HDTV(including Pam Minick's new human interest  series CBR-PRO-files which gives a behind the scenes look at the CBR personalities.)
The Outdoor Channel's Senior VP of Programming Wade Sherman spoke about the vast improvement in the CBR broadcast through the use of High  Definition and now  with (since El Paso) the addition of CBR President 4X World Champion Tuff Hedeman and  seasoned PRCA/ESPN broadcaster Jeff Medders to the show. Sherman stated :"
The latest news about Medders and Hedeman joining the commentating team will only further the mission CBR and Outdoor Channel began years ago to broadcast the most informative and entertaining bull riding series on TV.  I personally can not wait for the new season to begin."
I agree with him.I am looking forward to the new season too.According to CBR's Cicily Cross in her Crossroads column the debut of the Hedeman/Medders team should air  in about two- three weeks. She also said there will be some exciting changes in the show by May 1st; and I hope one change will be the broadcast being lengthened..

CBR's Lufkin,TX Bull Bash

B J Schumacher Tops The Field In CBR 's  Lufkin,TX.Bull Bash.
The fans packed  the George Henderson Expo Center in Lufkin,TX  as Hillsboro,Wisc.'s  BJ Schumacher edged defending event champion J.B. Mauney(Hillsboro,NC) out by a mere half point to take the event title and a cool $10,000.Mauney,who rode despite suffering from a broken foot scored 85.5 aboard Lufkin Ranch and Rodeo's Surprise in the long go while BJ scored  84.5 aboard Guidry's Trage. In the short go Schumacher, who only recently returned to competition  from a shoulder injury which kept him out of the NFR rode Owen Washburn's  Rags  for 92.5 while Mauney rode  Vernon Guidry's Dippin XS Energy for 91.
It was a night full of excitement and energy as only eleven riders made qualified rides in the 1st Round. In section 1 Clayton Foltyn rode Robertson/Wilson's  Renegade for 83 points finishing 10th in the round and third in the average with 172 on two as he rode R/W's Trickle Charge for 89 in the short go.Cooper Kanngieeser rode R/W's Broken Arrow for 88 and was 5th in the round but bucked off another favorite R/W's Biloxi Blues in the short go.
In section 2 Ronnie Kitchens rode Scott Burrous' Cat Man for 88 but bucked off of Guidry's Western Hauler Dip.Ronnie was 4th in the long go and 8th  in the average. He was followed by  one of the top young guns ,Kolt Miller who made a perfect ride aboard SB's Poll Cat for 90.Kolt was second in the round and fifth in the event as he bucked off of R/W's Spider Man.
Lee Woolsey rode R/W's Del Rio,an exciting little bull for 87.5 but bucked off of R/W's  Vertical Limit  in the short go  while Travis Sellers tied with him aboard M/LL's BB Blue.Sellers had the misfortune of drawing one of my favorite bulls in the short go-Lufkin Ranch and Rodeo's Zorro. This bull is nearly straight up and down as he leaps with his head pointing down in the opposite direction as his hind legs are kicking up.Love this bull.
JB  was in the third section as was Justin Richards  who scored 88.5 on LRR's Sonic Kat. Richards, who was third in the 1st round bucked off  Kevin Loudamy's Uncle Charlie in the short go and finished 6th in the average.
Sam Smith had the round winner with a great 91 point ride aboard LRR's Bill's Thrill. In the short go I had to pick the bull over him as it was Guidry's Hot Damn.Love that bull! Smith finished 4th in the average.
Aside from BJ's ride in the 4th section only Bonner Bolton rode for 8 seconds. He scored 86.5 aboard VG's Cookie Monster but bucked off R/W's Georgia Sun in the short go.
Four riders who bucked off in the 1st round got the chance to get into the short go. Among  the five only two scored. Daniel McNeill rode R/W's  Lady Luck for 83 and Curtis Seamans rode R/W's Crimson Tide for 88.5.Then we had BJ's 92.5 and JB's 91 and Clayton Foltyn's 89.Only Schumacher,Mauney and Foltyn covered two head.
The CBR just had some incredible  bulls and the bulls were in charge at this event and as Tuff Hedeman was quoted as saying:
"The caliber of bulls gave the guys a run for their money last night" There were three injuries.Travis Sellers suffered a muscle spasm with a bruised back while Daniel McNeill was hit in the face and suffered a slight concussion and a shaving scar.Palmer Merritt  was stepped on in the right upper quadrant of his abdomen and was transported to the hospital. for observation. He was released the following day with a bruised abdomen and possible bruised liver.
As for Matt Austin he leads the CBR standings, the PRCA's Winter Tour and their Xtreme Bulls Tour once again! He's incredible!
Don't forget .The Tuff Hedeman Championship Challenge begins Friday night  in Ft.Worth and runs through Sunday.Get your tickets now.

My personal take on this is anyone really wanting to improve his skills at bull riding should try and make this clinic. Matt is an A-1 rider and bullfighter; and you can really learn a lot here.

American Bullriding Association’s Final Results

American Bullriding Association’s Final Results

The 2005 Season ended with a roar in Jackson ,TN last Sept. 23 and 24 as riders and bulls challenged one another for the titles. Ronnie Maness from Henderson,TN was crowned the ABA World Champion. I recently saw Ronnie ride at a PBR Enterprise event and he is good..He was way ahead in points as the season came to a close so he could afford to buck off one or two at the Finals. On Friday night he scored 79 points aboard 22 Waterboy in the long go but bucked off of 763 Willie of CW Ranch in the short go. On Saturday Ronnie rode 121 Rudy Red of Rafter C Rodeo Company but bucked off of-32 Full House of Circle 13 Rodeo Company. Ronnie still held onto the lead for the World and walked away the ABA’s first World Champion.

It was a great weekend for Shawn Turner of Henning, TN. He managed to cover all four of his bulls to win the ABA’s Finals Championship. On Friday Shawn rode M17 of CW (Craig Whitman) Ranch for 69 points in the first round. He scored 81 on Rafter C’s (Guy Cox) 10 Spin To Win in the short go to lead the pack with 150 points going into Saturday’s contest. On Saturday he scored 72 on Circle 13”s(Scott Littrell) L J Lockjaw and scored 84 in the short go aboard Rafter C’s 84 Krazy Kat for a total of 156 points on Saturday. His 306 points gave him the event title and lifted him up to second place in the end of year standings.

Matt Littrell who is as outstanding a bullfighter as he is a rider scored 75 on 763 Willie of the CW Ranch but bucked off of CW’s 20 Spot. Matt who was a pretty consistent top rider all season ended up in third place in the standings.

Fourth place finisher was Matthew White of Cedar Grove, TN who scored 75 aboard Rafter C’s 121 Rudy Red in the long go on Friday but bucked off of Circle 13’s TK3 Denmark Biggs who was the runner up bull for Bucking Bull of the Year.

Charlotte’s Tye Allen, another rider I met at the Enterprise event, scored 71 aboard Circle 13’s 2% Milk but bucked off of Circle 13’s -32 Full House in the short go. Tye was 8th in the standings and brother Trey was ninth.

Fifth place finisher was Paris ,TN.’s Cody Nance who scored 71 on Circle 13’s 014 Copenhagen Drifter in Saturday’s long go but bucked off of Rafter C’s 10 Spin To Win. Billy Summers of Jackson,TN was sixth . He scored 70 on Rafter C’s 3 Intimidator but bucked off of CW’s 20 Spot. Blayne Hayse of Millington,TN. was seventh in the standings and Brandon Carter was ninth.

Johnny Mitchell of Jackson,TN. scored 69 on Circle 13’s +19 Toad Frog in the long go but bucked off ofRafter C’s 84 Krazy Kat in the short go. Perryville, Mo.’s Matt Cissell scored 70 on Rafter C’s 3 Intimidator and made a great ride aboard Circle 13’sTK3 Denmark Biggs for 78 points in the short go.

For readers who are used to PBR or CBR scores I have to tell you these judges were very stingy with their points. Some of these rides would have been much higher in those associations.

American Bullriding Association News

News from The American Bullriding Association.

Scott Littrell of Circle 13 Rodeo Company saw a need and decided to fulfill it.He put together ,much like Terry Williams did with his CBR, a new sanctioning organization for bull riders and stock contractors and promoters.

The American Bullriding Association, located in Jackson,TN. was founded to promote the sport of bull riding for local bull riders and stock contractors. Scott felt that we needed a sanctioned event association that would support the smaller contractor and /or promoter while it would enable riders to ride in sanctioned events minus the high entry fees of other sanctioned events. The way it is set up allows all contractors and riders to take part in their Finals at the end of the season.Permits must be bought by the riders and card holder fees are kept low.Contractors,as in any organization must join the ABA for what in bull riding is truly a minimal fee.Sanctioning fee, card fees, and added money fees are kept low so that it would not be excessively high to promote one of these sanctioned events. As the ABA grows there will be contractors/promoters from other states and possibly events outside of TN.

Bull Riders who ride here also ride in other sanctioned events.I saw quite a few at the PBR’s Enterprise event in Nashville,TN last month. Many ride in open jackpot bull ridings and hopefully they may talk with the producers of these open events ; getting them to join the ABA. The more producers and contractors the more opportunities for the riders .

Contractors have the opportunity to win a jacket by sending a bull to the Finals as well as having his or her bull voted on for Bull of the Year and Bull of the Event. And if their bulls are really good they may just win Stock Contractor of the Year. Also, from time to time these contractors/rodeo companies will be mentioned in Humps’n’Horns Magazine..Sanctioned events can be advertised in Humps’n’Horns and also in the ABA’s quarterly newsletter.

It gives the riders the chance to compete and earn points towards the ABA Finals. In 2006 the top twenty riders will be eligible to compete in the ABA National Championship.Runners-up at the event will receive buckles along with the Champions. All riders who make it to the Finals will receive ABA jackets as will contractors who send at least one bull to the Finals and also sanction at least one event. In addition all members receive a free one year subscriptionto Humps’n’Horns Magazine.
