American Bullriding Association News

News from The American Bullriding Association.

Scott Littrell of Circle 13 Rodeo Company saw a need and decided to fulfill it.He put together ,much like Terry Williams did with his CBR, a new sanctioning organization for bull riders and stock contractors and promoters.

The American Bullriding Association, located in Jackson,TN. was founded to promote the sport of bull riding for local bull riders and stock contractors. Scott felt that we needed a sanctioned event association that would support the smaller contractor and /or promoter while it would enable riders to ride in sanctioned events minus the high entry fees of other sanctioned events. The way it is set up allows all contractors and riders to take part in their Finals at the end of the season.Permits must be bought by the riders and card holder fees are kept low.Contractors,as in any organization must join the ABA for what in bull riding is truly a minimal fee.Sanctioning fee, card fees, and added money fees are kept low so that it would not be excessively high to promote one of these sanctioned events. As the ABA grows there will be contractors/promoters from other states and possibly events outside of TN.

Bull Riders who ride here also ride in other sanctioned events.I saw quite a few at the PBR’s Enterprise event in Nashville,TN last month. Many ride in open jackpot bull ridings and hopefully they may talk with the producers of these open events ; getting them to join the ABA. The more producers and contractors the more opportunities for the riders .

Contractors have the opportunity to win a jacket by sending a bull to the Finals as well as having his or her bull voted on for Bull of the Year and Bull of the Event. And if their bulls are really good they may just win Stock Contractor of the Year. Also, from time to time these contractors/rodeo companies will be mentioned in Humps’n’Horns Magazine..Sanctioned events can be advertised in Humps’n’Horns and also in the ABA’s quarterly newsletter.

It gives the riders the chance to compete and earn points towards the ABA Finals. In 2006 the top twenty riders will be eligible to compete in the ABA National Championship.Runners-up at the event will receive buckles along with the Champions. All riders who make it to the Finals will receive ABA jackets as will contractors who send at least one bull to the Finals and also sanction at least one event. In addition all members receive a free one year subscriptionto Humps’n’Horns Magazine.
