Three Time PBR World Champion Adriano Moraes and Dustin Hall Split Win At Chicago

Adriano Moraes and Dustin hall Split Win At The Cooper Tires Invitational

When the dust had settled  in Rosemont(Chicago) , Illinois the fans had a lot to cheer about as three time PBR World Champion Adriano Moraes had his first win this season. He split it with Dustin Hall whom he has watched grow up in bull riding telling Leah Garcia on air:" I have watched this kid since he was 10 years old." Adriano was beaming about the split  as was Dustin.
Both Adriano and Dustin scored 177.50 on two head.No one rode three  at this event  and a lot of theories have been posted. I think  it was just a better pen of stronger bulls than  we have seen in recent weeks coupled with  a lot of riders ready for time off due to nagging injuries.
In round one Adriano scored 86.75 aboard Martinez's  Mastermind who went around to the left in a fast spin into Adriano's hand. The bull was strong and scored 43.25. Meanwhile Korkow Rodeo's Swamp Donkey had Dustin Hall down at 2.1 seconds while earning a bull score of 42.
It was the opposite in round two as Redneck had his way with Adriano. It was an honest buck-off as Adriano kept his chin tucked  while the bull went around to the right away from Adriano's hand with power .redneck scored 42.25. Dustin was fourth in the round as he rode Jeff Robinson/Bar-X's Cold Play for 87.75 points in a ride that was not shown. As a matter of fact this weekend there were less rides shown and more talk it seems  than previous weekends.Only 30 riders made the broadcast in round  one and 27 in round two.The fans  have been complaining about it already on various message boards.
In the short go Dustin Hall drew Harlan Robertson"s(Silverado Rodeo) Crossroads who went around to the left away from Dustin's hand with high kicks and good timing .Dustin scored 89.75 and tied with Adriano Moraes for  first place. Crossroads scored 44.25.
Adriano had already made a great ride aboard the Chad Berger/Clay Struve's bull Say I Won't Gunner for 90.75 and won the short go.This was also the  highest point ride in the event. The bull had lots of action and high kicking as he went around to the left into Adriano's hand in a traveling spin while Adriano remained in perfect position and complete control. After the ride an elated Adriano caught the confetti streamers in his hat. The bull scored 44.75.
Unlike previous weeks there were only 12 qualified rides in the first round.; none of which were in the 90+ class. Brian Canter won the round with his 88.50 ride aboard Tino Martinez's  Vampire. who really impressed me.The bullet around to the left into Brian's hand with lots of kick in a fast spin. This is a hard bucker  and I hope we  see him a lot. I did think the bull should have scored a little higher but he had a good score with 43.25.
Jared Farley was right behind Brian in second place with 88 points aboard Gene Owens' Smokin Aces who went around to the right away from Jared's hand with high kicks. The bull scored 43.
He was followed in third place by Luke Snyder aboard Martinez's Train Wreck who took two leaps out then went around to the right into Luke's  hand  Luke looked  and scored 87.75 while the bull scored 43.
Brendon Clark  looked good aboard 5G Farms' Hat Rack  who went around to the right into Brendon's hand with action and Brendon made a good spur ride. His get off was not too good as he got nailed on the way down but it was the collision with a bullfighter  that   caused Brendon to sprain his right knee.  Brendon scored 87.25 while the bull scored 43.
Clayton Williams had a great looking ride going aboard Handsome Jack who went around to the right into Clay's hand with lots of kick but Clay came down at 7.9 and challenged. The judge went against him  but the bull scored 42.75.
I was surprised to see Tommy Gun receive a bull score of 40.50. I expected him to score in the mid thirties as the bull didn't perform until nearly the end of the ride.He took five leaps straight out with Tony Mendes  aboard before going around to the right away from Tony's hand.Just not enough bull for Tony as he scored 89.75 with no option for a re ride. Little Johnny with Shane Proctor aboard was even worse with a bull score of 37.50 and that was kind of the judges as the bull just skipped around. Shane scored  76.25 and had a bad wreck on the get-off and was unable to mount his re-ride bull per Tandy as  he got hit on the head by the bull and knocked out momentarily. The bull's horn hit his helmet and bent his face mask.
Tandy was kept busy  in Rosemont as  one rider after another  got injured. Reese Cates broke his pinkie finger on his riding hand during his ride on Crown of Thorns who actually had a bad trip and only scored 39.75,bucking Reese off. Reese rode on Sunday but Tandy wants a hand surgeon to check out Reese's finger .JB Mauney aggravated  the separated left shoulder injury when he got yard darted by Big Rig on Saturday who bucked hard .The bull took two leaps out then went around to the right away from JB's hand to get JB off early. This was a good bull with a score of 44.50. The injuries went on as Buckwheat stepped on Wiley Petersen's left calf and bruised it as Wiley bucked off  when the bull  went around to the left into Wiley's hand with lots of power and action then jumped forward in the spin before returning to the spin .Buckwheat scored 43.75.
Chris Shivers and Valdiron de Oliveira tied for 6/7 with 85.50. Chris rode Dark Side who scored 42.50 as he went around to the left into Chris' hand  with a lot of power that got Chris out of shape at the end of the ride.
Valdiron  rode Sleepy Cat who scored 42.25 and I think this score was generous as the bull was not that good.He bucked straight down the middle of the arena before finally going around to the right into Valdiron's hand, Zack Brown looked a lot better than the bull he rode,Skunk Juice  who also was judged  higher than I thought he should have been at 42.25 as the bull  who did have good timing just did a loping buck to the left into Zack's hand. Meanwhile Kolt Donaldson was 9th in the round with 84.25 on Powder Burn who scored 41.50 as he bucked around to the left away from Kolt's hand then jumped out of the spin with a fake right  before reversing back to the left with no timing.  Bryan Richardson scored  83.75 with his ride aboard The Godfather who did not have a good trip although he kicked high with a lot of direction change by faking right then left then right then left in a loping buck  . Bryan was out of shape during the ride but he did earn his Enterprise $5000 bonus and tenth place in the round.
Brian Canter went into round two in the lead but did not get his Enterprise bonus as Man Law bucked him off to the right and Brian was seen limping out. That was not the entire problem as his head hit the ground and he sustained a concussion and could not ride in the short go. Man Law scored 44.25.
It was great to see Mike White  make a solid ride on Three Hills Migraine for 88.75 and the round win.The bull who scored 43.25 went around to the right into Mike's hand with good action.Go get them Mike!
If you looked at the PBR's  injury reports  they had the wrong bull linked to Brendon Clark. Brendon rode Joker's Wild, not Alice Cooper for  85.50 and a tie for 9/10 in round two. The bull was around to the right  into Brendon's hand and Brendon had a good solid ride until the get off when  the bull jumped out of the spin and yard darted Brendon who received a concussion but still rode in the short go.
It was keep Tandy busy time as more and more riders made that trip to the HealthSouth room. I am not sure what happened to  Tyler Pankewitz as his rides were not shown but his bull in round one  must have sent him flying into the gate as he required stitches on his free arm and then took a re-ride and bucked off. From the injury report I had thought  this was a round two report but it went with round one.
Guilherme Marchi made a solid ride aboard Yellow Snow for 88.25 and second place in round two.The bull scored 43.25 as he faked left then went around to the right into Guilherme's hand for one spin then jumped out  of it and reversed left  away  then jumped out of that spin.
Shane Proctor  made a good ride aboard Gappy Joe for 88 and  3rd place in the round. The bull went around to the right into Shane's hand and Shane  had a good spur ride going  as the bull scored 43..Of course Dustin Hall was fourth in the round and he was followed by J B Mauney  aboard Mean Machine  in fifth place.JB scored 87.50 in what looked like a good  text book ride as the bull  was around to the right away from his hand and JB stayed centered with good free arm motion. The bull scored 43.
Travis Briscoe  who just turned 21 scored 86.50 aboard Start Me Up as the bull was around to the left  into Travis' hand with good timing and lots of kick for a bull score of 42.75.
Helton Barbosa's 86.25 ride aboard Clown Attack was one of the many not shown. Helton was 7th while the bull scored42.50.
Ednei Caminhas rode Rip and Dip for 85.75  and 8th place as the bull took two leaps out with rear and drop then flattened out as he spun to the right into Ednei's hand. The bull score was 42.
Ross Coleman , Brendon Clark and Reese Cates tied for 85.50 and 9/11 in the round.  Ross rode Lil J who went around to the left away from Ross' hand with good timing and lots of kick. The bull who is really small scored 42 ; and Ross had no problems with him.Ive already detailed Brendon's ride but Reese Cates rode Far West who scored 43.25.Nick Landreneau was 12th with 84.50 aboard  Spit Shine who scored 41.25. The last qualified ride in the round was Valdiron de Oliveira for 82.50 aboard Diamond Head who left a lot to be desired. All the bull did was go around to the right in a loping buck. I would not have scored the bull any higher than 37.50 but he got 40.25.
Once again there were  bulls who did not have good trips and bull scores in the low and mid thirties. Some may have been lower but the PBR does not post the original scores when a re-ride has been given.  In rounds one and two there were a total  of 12 bulls who averaged scores below 41 with most  falling into the thirties. That does not take into accord the  scores not posted for the bulls  who were so poor that re-rides were given. I guess I remember when the bulls had to earn their way up by bucking good consistently in the lower tiers. Maybe  the PBR needs to return to their old ways. Then we will see the best bulls on tour.
The short go had the worse  injuries of the weekend and the scariest wrecks. But it also had some great rides.
Reese Cates started it off with  his 86.75 ride aboard Chad Berger/Clay Struve's  Evil Forces who scored 42.75 as he took three leaps out  then faked left  jumped forward and went into a left spin away from Reese's hand.It was not Evil Forces best trip but Reese had 172.25 on two head and was fourth in the round and fifth in the average.
The next ride was one of the scary wrecks as Two Time World Champion Chris Shivers  called for the gate aboard Harlan Robertson's Cowboy and was promptly thrown into the slide gate  head first buy the unruly bull. Chris  was not knocked out and made the first two jumps out of the chute on the bull.It was a re-ride option and Tandy immediately said  no for Chris who will be out 2-6 weeks with a broken  left cheekbone and eye socket. Chris had blood pouring from his nose so I wonder if that too was not broken but if so its not listed. Chris was to undergo surgery to reduce and fix the breaks today. Our prayers are with you Chris.
Then came the next wreck. It was Ednei Caminhas aboard Booger Butt who first had laid down the chute and turned over on his back. When they finally got him repositioned and Ednei got out the bull went to the left away from Ednei's hand and sent him slamming into the chute uprights. At first it looked like Ednei had injured his back but it was his hip and thigh which hit hard .He bruised his right thigh and aggravated the sciatic nerve. He had been taken out on a back board and sent for x-rays.
Helton Barbosa went limping off as Party Time bucked him off at 4.8 with a score of 44.25. Although he had a bad trip Big Rig scored 42.50 which is really surprising as the ride looked like it should have gone for a re-ride.The bull took three leaps out  then bucked in place before going around to the left into Travis' hand at the end.The clock said 7.9 and Travis challenged it but didn't win.
Then came Adriano's round winner aboard Say I Won't Gunner for 90.75. I was hoarse from cheering.
J B Mauney was the next to get injured as he got slammed by Little Slim when he was bucked off and then stepped by the bull. He bruised his right leg and aggravated the old MCL sprain of his left knee. The bull scored 44.50.
That was followed by Dustin Hall's ride aboard Crossroads to tie with Adriano for the lead..He was followed by Luke Snyder on Sir Patrick who went to the left away from Luke's hand then reversed right into it , getting Luke up off of his pockets and down. The bull scored 44.75.
Jared Farley was off of Move It  at 7.5 as the bull was around to the left into Jared's hand and Jared was out of shape. The bull scored44.75 and Jared was 10th in the average. Guilherme Marchi rode Malibu for 87.50 and 175.75  on two head. He was third in the round and the average. The bull, who scored 43.25 came out sideways then was around to the right then bucked along the fence. It was an awful trip and an over-inflated bull score. I would have expected a below 40  bull score and a re-ride as the bull just bucked to the right along the chutes.
Walk The Line  took one out then faked right  into Mike White's hand then reversed left away with lots of twist to get Mike down early. Mike was eighth in the average.
Shane Proctor was okay when Harlan Robertson's Buckeye flipped over on his right side as the chute gate opened.hane was given a re-ride and at the end of the round they brought Buckeye back for him.The bull  was around to the right into Shane's hand andwhen Shane began to spur he bucked off.  Shane finished 7th in the average.
Chicken On A Chain took two out then faked left and reversed right into Valdiron de Oliveira's hand alternating kicking  with belly kicks. He scored 45.50 as he bucked Valdiron off Valdiron was 6th in the event.
Brendon Clark was gimping after Gnash bucked him off and scored 45.25.The bull was around to  the left away from Brendon's hand .Brendon was 4th in the event. Although he was unable to ride  in the short go Brian Canter's 88.50 from round one  was enough to place him in 9th position.
All in all it was exciting as the bulls had their way with the riders. Congratulations to Adriano Moraes and Dustin Hall. They were great.
