Chad Castillo Wins The Prestigious Tuff Hedeman Championship Challenge At Ft. Worth

I was unable to make it to Ft. Worth once again but I had my eyes and ears there as my husband Norman attended  the event again. I could have had this up and posted but to be honest I wanted to watch the round  before reporting on it.And it was well worth the wait.

Douglas Duncan  started the action off with his 84 point ride aboard  Dan Duncan's Big Red  as the bull went around to the left five times then jumped out and bucked straight.  Chance Smart followed aboard Chad and Cherie Weishuhn's Monkey Blood who went around to the right then reversed back left to buck Chance off. This was an NBBA  Futurity so there are lots of new names here.

Patrick Fisher's Funky Monkey made quick work of Kanin Asay as he went around to the right away from Kanin's hand.
Luke Haught drew one of the NBBA's top bulls in Alvin Jones' Apollo I . Haught got behind at the get go and went flying out the back door as Apollo spun to the left into Haught's hand.
Howdy Cloud drew Tino Martinez's bull Bad Blue who faked right and left  then turned back to the right into Howdy's hand then jumped forward and reversed the spin to buck Howdy off.
JC Bean  drew  Dan Duncan's Bad Moon who was around to the left into JC's hand. The bull got faster each turn and got JC  leaned back and off.
SH Farms June Bug got  the best of Jay Morrow as  the bull took three huge leaps  out  and turned back to the right to send Jay flying off.
Guidry/Hurst's Comet's Gold , a fast spinner, turned back to the right away from Mike Moore's hand with high kicks to buck Mike off.
Lufkin Ranch and Rodeo's Rebel took two high leaps forward, faked left and went around to the right into Chad German's hand, and Chad was off at the buzzer with a score of 85.5.
Wesley Silcox made a great ride for 91 points aboard Lufkin Ranch and Rodeo's Maverick who took long leaps  out before going around to the right into Wesley's hand.   Wesley made an aggressive spur ride and remained centered and in complete control.
Several of the riders had been at Rodeo Houston and CBR President Tuff hedeman  hired a plane to fly them up to Ft. Worth for this event. Tuff always goes the extra mile for the riders.
The Jerry Copp/Britt Bockius bull Spittin' Gun went around to the right into Cody Hancock's hand fast and had Cody out of position and off.
Cole Echols made a good ride aboard Will Robinson's Bull Dog for 88.5 as the bull went around to the right into Cole's hand with good timing and action.
Jake Littlefield followed with his 89.5 aboard the Logan/Foutch bull Wichita who took one leap out then went around to the right into Jake's hand but flattened out during the last part of the ride. Wichita did spin fast and covered a lot of ground and Jake  matched him move for move.
It looked like Kenny Westrope was going to get a good score as Hog Creek Ranch's Dust Storm went around to the left in a really fast spin with Kenny hanging on  over the right side  near the end but he was DQ'd when the judges aid he slapped the bull.He still made the effort.
Glenn Carlton's Trouble With Humans took three long leaps out  before going around to the left to buck off Logan Knibbe. Guidry/Hurst's  bull Hot Diggity Damn,a son of my favorite Hot Damn went around to the right out of the chute and pulled Ladden Ledbetter down and over the front.
Seth Reynold's  scored 86.5 as L&G's Skat Jacket  took one leap out then faked left then reversed right into Seth's hand in a loping buck. This was the first time this bull was ever rode.
Cody Whitney made a great ride but a horrible dismount aboard Alan Murphy's Peep Show. The bull went around to the left into Cody's hand in a fast spin and Cody remained in perfect position through the ride.He scored 88.5 but hung up  with his spur in his rope as he made the dismount and even Roach Hedeman came running to the rescue. You had bullfighters, riders, gatemen all trying to hold the bull and they were lucky no one else was hurt because of an overzealous outrider who ran his horse right into the melee se veal times and tossed a loop while all the guys are trying to rescue Cody. I was told he almost lassoed Ray Clary but I saw a loop bounce off of Matt Baldwin too. Cody did break his wrist and was unable to ride in the short go. Meanwhile Ray Clary dressed the outrider down and it was deserved. Barrelman Cody Sousby used his knife to cut Cody Whitney's bull rope which was the only way to get him loose.I understand Sousby cut his own hand in the process.
Bonner Bolton,2007 CBR World Champion didn't fare well as  Bobby Harrison's Sam T Straight turned back into his hand and got Bonner down into the well. Danny McDowell rode  L&G's  Black Jacket for 87 as the bull took four long leaps  to the left then went around to the right into Danny's hand. Collin McTaggart drew Carney Man(Hurst/Garrett/Dyesss)who went around to the left into Collin's hand and beat him around the corner for a buck-off.
Zack Oakes made a great looking ride aboard Lyndal Hurst's chubby looking bull Fat Jimmy.Dont be fooled because this bull can really buck! He took two leaps out  then went around to the right into Zack's hand with drift and power.Zack scored 89.5.
Travis Sellers rode Wes Bruce's Texas Down Under for 87.5 points .The bull went around to the right real fast but flattened out early.
Hard Eight's Snake Eyes faked right  then went around  to the right into Dave Samsel's hand after leaping forward in the spin to get Dave out of shape and off. Bobby Harrison's Gambino Wine hop ,skipped and jumped out then pulled Bronson Butcher down forward and over  GB's head.Bron son got hit but is okay.
B J Schumacher fell victim to Lufkin Ranch and Rodeo's  Dirty Demon who took one leap out and made a sharp left  to beat BJ around the corner.
Cooper Kanngiesser rode Jesse Hill's Black Cat for 86 as the bull hopped out then went around to the left away from Cooper's hand then reversed right.
Hill's Parachute  sent Kolt Miller flying off as he took two out and went around to the right into Kolt's hand ,sending Kolt off to the outside.
David Bailey Jr's Orange Pop  had his way with Steve Woolsey as he turned into Steve's hand  and got him leaned back on his hand and off.
Billy Jones' Kaitlyn's Kat , a small bull was not the best draw for Navajo Nation Champion Spud Jones who is tall. The bull went around to the left away from Spud's hand and got him leaned back  and off at 7.5. I think I will have to do battle with Tuff  as he claims he's Spud's number one fan and I say I am! Spud not only is very talented as a bull rider but a joy to interview.
Chad Castillo  made a good solid ride  aboard Alan Murphy's Mr. Nice Guy who went around to the right away from Chad's hand then moved forward before reversing left into Chad's hand  then went straight.Chad scored 87.
Danell Tipton scored 88.5 aboard Scott Burruss' Arkansas Flash who went around to the right away from Danell's hand then reversed left into it while Danell spurred.
Jarrod Craig made a solid ride aboard Burruss' Windmill for 86 who is a flat but very fast spinner. The bull made himself dizzy and laid down. Jarrod's score was tied by Tony Smart aboard Mike Johnson's Pearl Harbor  who went around to the left with not much kicking action. Johnson's McCrazy took a long and strong leap out away from matt Austin's hand and had the World Champion off quickly.
The last ride on the broadcast was Mexican National Champion Hugo Pedrero aboard Tut Henry's Jolly Rancher who went around to the left while moving forward with no timing then reversed right.Hugo scored  88.
The riders who were not shown were all buck-offs.
In the short go there was a lot of action  from top bulls and only three qualified ride.sI really enjoy the broadcasts. I love the way they have various stock contractors profile their own bulls. And I sure loved the way Jeff Medders referred to Tuff's event as "The party that Tuff built."I also enjoyed seeing Matt Baldwin's segment about  bull fighting .I loved his comment"If you see me take off running I'm fixing to get smoked." That is so true! And they showed  a brave with his face painted red and white standing with his horse. I thought that was appropriate.
Douglas Duncan was the first rider out in the short go and he drew Billy Jones' Hugh who took one huge leap forward then turned back to the left into Douglas' hand  while flattening out in the spin and drifting. He drew Douglas  down and caused him to slap. Clayton Williams bull Head Banga Sent Chad German flying out the back door as the bull went around to the left away from Chad's hand with power. Clayton has a good one here.
Then it was White Chocolate(Scott Burruss) around  to the right into Jarrod Craig's hand before reversing left away from Jarrod's hand. Jarrod, the first rider to  score on two head  looked perfect and scored 88 on the ride and had 174 on two head.
Burruss' Tombstone took two leaps out before turning back to the right with drift and got Cooper Kanngiesser down into the well.
Alan Murphy's Chrome molly was around to the left from Tony Smart's hand  but the reverse  to the right got Tony and  it was bulls 4-riders 1.
Murphy's Who's There kept it going as he was around to the left in a drifting spin then jumped forward to get Seth Reynolds down early.
Rich Bumbaca's Twigs & Berries is a big ,strong bull who takes two huge leaps out and had Danny McDowell off as he went back left.
Chad Castillo stopped the bulls'  winning momentum with his great ride for 91 aboard Alan Murphy's Smokin' Joe who faked left and right then went around to the left in a fast  drifting spin with a lot of strong action.Chad spurred from the start and looked great. He took the lead with 178.50 on two head.
Bumbaca's  Auger  faked  right and left then went around to the right into Travis Sellers' hand with a lot of action, kick and speed. He threw change-ups and belly rolls at Travis to get him off early.
Mexican National Champion Hugo Pedrero looked great aboard Murphy's Full Throttle  who went around to the left into Hugo's hand in a fast spin with good timing and a lot of action.Hugo remained centered and in control while scoring 90.He had 178 on two head for second place in the event and round.
Danell Tipton bucked off of Bumbaca's Easy Street who went around to the left into Danell's hand and made him slap.
Murphy's Buckshot was around to the right into Cole Echols hand when Cole lost hold with his feet and the bull pulled him forward and down.Cole's behind and the bull's horn met on the dismount and Cole was helped out.
Tut Henry's Cochise  had Zack Oakes off right out of the chute. That's one powerful bull. Bumbaca's Hasta Luego had Jake Littlefield off right away and its questionable as whether he lost his rope or just bailed off. He might have thought he had a re-ride coming as the bull stumbled slightly but never lost a step nor went down to his knees.
It was down to the last rider,Wesley Silcox and he drew  Burruss' Tar Baby who went around to the left away from Wesley's hand  and sent Wesley flying off.
Chad Castillo won the prestigious Tuff Hedeman Championship Challenge before a packed house and his family which included his new baby. Congratulations to Chad.
The next CBR event will be the George Paul Memorial in Del Rio Texas  in May. Check my report on April's Lubbock event and be sure to watch the broadcast of RFD-TV.
