CBR News For January, 2008

Onward To The CBR World Championship-Echols Moves Up In Standings
by Sheila Totten
The CBR World Championship will be held January 25th and 26th in Las Vegas , Nevada at the South Point Hotel and Casino. Its going to exciting and full of action  with great bulls and top riders.
When the CBR had their last event of the season in Jackson,MS. , Cole Echols(Frierson,Louisiana) won the event title  and jumped into third place in the CBR's Crown Royal World Standings.Echols rode Scott Burruss'  500 Redneck in the long go for  87 points to tie with Willis Trosclair(Thibodaux,Louisiana) for 3/4 in the round.Echols made a great ride on Diamond K Bucking Bulls' Jack Hammer in the short go for 91.5 taking first in both the event and the short go.
Kenny Westrope rode  Jesse Hill's Sting in the short go for 90 points for second place in the round and fifth in the event. Westrope and Friday Wright had both been called back for the short go and both  did well. Wright rode Scott Burruss' Foolish Man for 87 and third place in the round and sixth place in the event.

Pistol Robinson remains in first place in the standings. He won the long go with 89.5 aboard one of my all time favorites from Lufkin Ranch and Rodeo,Spanky. Pistol was second in the event.
Dusty Gailey took advantage of the last event of the season to make it into the top 45 headed for the World Finals by riding LRR's Maverick for 88.5 in the long go for second place in the round and third place in the event. Willis Trosclair also secured a spot in the top 45 with his 87 points aboard Paul Daniel's Rena's Pet. Willis was  fourth in the event.
There were lots of great bulls there per usual  with only 9 qualified rides  in the long go and three in the short go. Lots of excitement and action as the bulls won every round. Our friend Wesley Cryer came down off a a really good young bull from LRR- Maverick. He's another Zorro.I have watched Wes ride with no vest and using a flank strap for a bull rope many times. He's a great rider and once he gets back into shape watch out! He'll be headed straight for the gold.!
Now its on to Vegas this weekend for the CBR Finalists. Several of the top riders are unable to be there to compete once again because of being locked into contracts which have them obligated to ride elsewhere.
