Miller Wins Average As Sidelined Matt Austin Holds On To Win World

Its Official-Matt Austin Repeats As CBR World Champion While Kolt Miller Wins The Average.
by Sheila Totten
Ok everyone.I can now tell you that CBR 2005 World Champion Matt Austin is now officially the 2006 CBR World Champion making Matt the first rider to win two CBR World Titles and the first to win two back to back World Titles; and he did this without being able to even compete.Matt was so far ahead  in the standings that his lead was able to hold out till the end.Now hopefully he will recover early enough from his injuries and surgery to make it three in a row.Way to go ,Matt!
Kolt Miller surprised everyone with his come from behind finish to capture the average win.Kolt was #21 in the standings before the Finals; and finished out of the money on the first night although he made a strong ride for 86 points aboard Rich Bumbaca's Hasta Luego. He was able to go on and cover his second bull on Saturday, Mike Johnson's exciting Legally Blonde for 86 points; while once again finishing outside the top eight. It must have felt like  he would never make it but in the short go he made a great ride aboard Jess Hill's Wolf for 92 points., taking not only the round but the average.
Only two other riders  made qualified rides in the short go.Hugo Pedrero rode Harlan Robertson's  Mean Machine for 88.5 while Zeb Lanham rode the Bruce /Lane bull Wow Wow for 91.5.Robertson's Texas blanked Bryan Richardson while Wes Bruce's Cowboy Cut beat McKennon Wimberley.Bull of the Year,Robertson's Spiderman beat PRCA former World Champion Dustin Elliott while his Biloxi Blues got thy best of Steve Woolsey.Jess Hill's Scarface beat Tate Stratton and David Bailey's Red Man won his match with Wesley Silcox. Robertson's White Chocolate beat Clayton Williams and Jay Dunford fell victim to Glen Southwick's Jimmy Ray.The Berger/Stravie bull Detour was victor over Danell Tipton while Robertson's Big City beat Justin Hermanson. It was lightning striking three times over the weekend for Bonner Bolton as David Bailey's Lucky Strike won the rematch against Bolton and left Bonner wondering  how to get by this great bull. Last but not least my favorite in the short go,Lufkin Ranch and Rodeo's Zorro beat Ardie Maier.
When the dust settled Kolt Miller won $53,000 for the average plus his $500 bonus from the American War Heroes  Organization for his 90+ ride. Added to his season's total ,Miller jumped from #21 to #2 in the standings by winning $62,807-just $3,069 behind Matt Austin.
McKennon Wimberley who entered the finals in second place  finished third in the year's standings with $45,948; and Idaho's Zeb Lanham ended up 4th with $41,392.Hugo Pedrero was fifth with Bonner Bolton,Ronnie Kitchens,Wesley Silcox,JB Mauney and B J Schumacher rounding out the rest of the top ten. Mauney who was obligated to be in New York had been in fourth place  prior to the Finals and although not present ended the year  in 9th.
Congratulations to the Matt Austin for winning his second CBR World Championship and to Kolt Miller for winning the Average.Congratulations also to Stock Contractor of the Year Harlan Robertson and to his bull, Spiderman for being Bull of the year. And also congratulations to CBR CEO Terry Williams,CBR President Tuff Hedeman and to all the rest of the hard working members of the CBR for giving us all a very exciting season once again.
