CBR World Championship-Bolton Faces Lucky Strike

CBR World Championship-Bonner Bolton Takes An Early  Event Lead
by Sheila Totten

The dust has settled in Las Vegas and the results of the CBR's World Championship Are now in the record books. The  winners of Bull of the year,Stock Contractor, etc have yet to be announced as tonight is the Awards Dinner. As soon as I have those names I will announce them. As for the name of the 2006 CBR World Champion, I wonder how many of you have already guessed it. Maybe I should prolong the suspense just a little longer but I did make the prediction!
Round one honors went to Bonner Bolton who scored 92 on a great ride aboard Jess Hill's Wolf. That gave
Bolton the chance to  try his luck in the $25,000 CLS Challenge against David Bailey's Lucky Strike who is rated as one of the best bucking bulls  in this country. When the bull actually fouled Bolton at the gate,David Bailey agreed to allow Bolton a second chance.Bailey's bull is just too good as he bucked off Bolton twice in a row.Just another great one from a great contractor.
In the first round Tate Stratton was the first rider to score with 87 points aboard Harlan Robertson's  White Diamond.Harlan's bulls blanked Pistol Robinson,Travis Sellers ,Zeb Lanaham, Billy Robinson and Ronny Kitchens.Jay Dunford was able to hang on for 84 points aboard Harlan's Blue Chip while Tag Elliott scored 85.5  aboard  his White Chocolate.
In round two of the long go we had a mix of great bulls blanking riders left and right. One of the picks of the night was Jarrod Craig aboard Harlan Robertson/Henry Wilson's Mercury rising. Mercury Rising won the match. With the new abbreviation system I am not sure of all the stock contractor names so I apologize to any who I just list by their initials. BL's Wow Wow blanked Tye Odden while Howdy Cloud was blanked by Wes Bruce's Cowboy Cut.Zack Oakes scored 84 on Cherokee Fiddler; one of my favorite Bruce bulls. The Berger/Stravie bull Detour  won the match with J C Bean  while Lufkin Ranch and Rodeo's Zorro, a great little bull, beat Ryan McConnell to the punch .I can just see Joe Wimberley's big grin as McKennon made a great ride aboard LRR's Spanky for 90 points.
In round three Clayton Williams rode  MB's Coffee Bean for 84 points while Ranger blanked Shawn Coleman.Danny Ted McDowell made a strong ride aboard Frontier Rodeo's Black Water for 86 points while PRCA  former World Champion Dustin Elliott made a great ride for 88 aboard Kevin Loudamy's Uncle Charlie; another great bull who is hard to get by on .Kevin's Cha Ching blanked Logan Knibbe while Justin Hermanson scored 77 on Predator.  MA's Frankie blanked Dusty Higgins  while Kolt Miller made a good ride aboard Rich Bumbaca's Hasta Luego for 84 points.Kolt had a great Finals but more on that later.
Danell Tipton led off round 4 aboard Frontier Rodeo's Woodstock with 87.5 points. Jerry sure brought some good bulls as always. His Pistol Pete blanked Derald Riche while Cooper Kanngiesser rode Dodgin' Calls for 85.5 .I love watching Jerry's Society's Child. That's one of my favorite Frontier bulls.Bet he isn't Layne McCasland's though as the bull gave Layne a no score just as Frontier's Smokey Mountain did the same for Kenny Westrope.Sam Smith scored 83.5 aboard FR's Moonshadow while Wesley Silcox made a great ride aboard Frontier's Flash for 89.5.
In round five Bryan Richardson rode David Bailey's Tar Baby for 88 and looked good.Meanwhile David Bailey's  Super Cool sent Ardie Maier off with out a score.DB's Red Man blanked Jesse Scholl while his Billionaire blanked Cody White.Glen Southwick's Jimmy Ray edged out Brian Curtis while LRR's Crooked Eddie blanked Justin Richard.Southwick's Desert Child got Dave Samsel off early while Robbie Herrington's Smokin Joe blanked Chad Castillo.Jess Hill's Scarface did the same to reigning PRCA World Champion B J Schumacher and his Scarface gave a big zero to Marcus Michaelis.Bad Bob beat Jake Littlefield but Bonner Bolton rode Jess Hill's Wolf for 92 and that was the go winning ride which sent Bolton to the CLS Challenge.Chad Couch rode Mike Johnson's  Little Flip for 79. Hugo Pedrero rode Johnson's Cat Daddy for 86.5 and Steve Woolsey rode his Legally Blonde for 85.5.
After the first long go the top eight riders were as follows:
