Greg Potter Wins AMP'd Mobile Invitational

Potter Wins Event title For The Third Time At The PBR AMP' d Mobile Invitational At Anaheim
by Sheila Totten
Greg Potter surely loves Anaheim. This weekend made the third time  the Australian born rider has won the event title here.Greg rode Charmed I'm Sure in round One  for 84.75 to tie for 16/17 in the round as 21 riders made the whistle. In round two it was Little beaver who was slow going out of the chute ,spinning to the right into Greg's hand and reversing left near the end of the ride getting Greg out of shape.Still he scored 81 for 165.75 on two head. In round three Greg had another respectable ride aboard Cats Meow who took two leaps straight out of the chute before spinning to the left with a lot of drift. Greg scored 84.25 and had 250 on three head going into the short go where he tied for 2/3 with Kody Lostroh (88.75 on C&H's 7 of Hearts) with his ride aboard Berger's Flack Jacket who went into a fast spin to the left away from Greg's hand. Although he never won a round,Greg persevered and was the only rider to top all four bulls this weekend.Great going Greg!
Round one was won by Canadian Rob Bell who sure had a lot more on his mind than riding. His young son is ill and I know we all will be praying for a speedy recovery for him.Rob scored 89.75 points on Corey and Horst's 3 Spot.Brian Herman was second in the round with 88 points on Berger's Flack Jacket while Paolo Crimber was third with 87.75 aboard Diamond G's Orange Crush Jr.J.B. Mauney was fourth with87.50 on C&H's  7 of Hearts.
In round two it was Brian Herman who won the round on Humpz and Hornz's Hot Rod for 89.25 who spun to the right into Brian's  hand then reversed left. Before the round began Chris Shivers was interviewed and  told the crowd that he's been doing some roping as he recuperates. He added that although Tandy feels Chris can return in thirty days Chris  might wait longer. He said he would not be in a position to challenge for this year's title because of all the events he'd miss and he wants to make sure his leg is strong enough to stand up to riding.Chris has learned  to take his time coming back; and that's a good thing.Too many riders come back from an injury too early and  either are not able to ride up to par or get hurt again because they are not healthy enough.A good example is Mike Lee who is competing against the sound advice of Dr. Tandy Freeman. Tandy did not want Mike to ride as yet because of the concussion he had suffered;and Mike's riding average has fallen sharply since he returned.Tonight he bucked off of Black Dancer  who is a bull Mike normally would have rode well.In round one he bucked off of Top Gun who only scored 39.25.
Ross Johnson looked good aboard Ryan McClure's Hypnotic as Ross finished tied for 2/3 with 88 points  with Kody Lostroh who rode Flying U/Moreno's High Waters.J.W. Hart finished in a tie for  4/5 with 86.50 aboard Diamond G's T-Box with Brian Canter aboard Performance Livestock/Gene Owen's Criminal Mind.
There were a lot of rerides in the round starting with Cody Whitney's 72.50 ride aboard Domino Dip who never got into a spin but faked left and right just hop, skip and jumping.Silvanei Dias got a reride option after  his bull made one spin then jumped out of it and made a straight loping buck.If Billy Robinson had hung on he would have had a reride as Painted Wolf's bull score was only 30 Unfortunately Evan Rasch ran into a similar  problem when  he came down early from Judd Leffew's bull Money man  who leaped forward  in a wild and fast movement then went sideways.Evan hit the dirt hard but is ok.The bull only scored 37.75.T-Bits faked left then circled right in a loping buck to give Mike White  a reride option with 65.25 points. So many  good bulls had bad trips Kasey Hayes got a reride when Pastor Ray just faked right and loped straight for 73.50.Turbo had an awful trip scoring 26.50 as he just ran  around the arena in a lope.Brian Canter got a reride when Sling Shot went into a flat ,slow drifting spin for 69.50.
Cody Whitney lost his reride score when Jesse's Ride bucked him off but Mike White scored 84.50 on Freightliner.Brian Canter got another reride when Choctaw had a bad trip bucking straight for over 5 seconds before circling right away from Brian's hand.Kasey ha yes could not get out on his reride bull PFI's Disco Baby and was given adopter bull.
Brian Canter made a great recovery when Criminal Mind went sideways with a stumblestep then faked right then spun left and finally reversed back right.Brian scored 86.5 .
Kasey Hayes scored 84.75 on his reride aboard Speedy Gonzales who went into a fast spin with good action into Kasey's hand.
In round three it was  Sean Willingham on  Berger's Irishman Pat and Travis Briscoe on H&H Hot rod who tied for 1/2 in the round.Beau Hill was third aboard C&H's 3 Spot with 87.25 points while Billy Robinson was 4th on Berger's Peacemaker with 87.
Brian Canter thrilled the crowd with his 91 point ride on Rice Ranch's Mud Flap who spun to the right away from Brian's hand  with lots of action.Brian kept moving forward jump for jump with his hips and looked picture perfect.Kody Lostroh scored 88.75 on Corey and Horst's 7 of Hearts who Kody tied    with Greg Potter on  Berger's Flack jacket and that fast spinning ride to the left away from Greg's hand was the event winner.Justin McBride  finished fourth with 88.25 aboard C&H's Rez Boy who took two huge leaps out of the chute then spun to the right into Justin's hand be for reversing left.and nearly getting Justin off  before the buzzer.
It was in round three that Mike Lee once again came down hard on his head and was also glanced by the bull's hind legs.Poke slammed Mike down after the second jump and his back hooves came down on Mike's  protective helmet.he sustained another concussion, a lacerated left ear and a possible broken Leaf jaw .Once again Tandy will have a talk with Mike about the wisdom of taking time off to heal from a head injury.I sure hope Mike listens this time. Next weekend is the Challenger Finals in OKC  but Mike is questionable for the BFTS in St Louis on February 23rd weekend. Brian Herman who also sustained a concussion is probable for St.Louis.
Justin McBride who was 10 points behind in second place after round two is now  back in first in the BFTS standings by over 200 points.
