Rob Smets was tossed through the air at the PBR's BFTS event in St Louis by Cat Daddy three weeks ago.Rob separated his shoulder but was heard to say over his mike:"at least I didn't land on my neck" On March 3rd at the Reno-Tahoe event Rob did come down on his neck when Stinger flipped him high up in the air.Rob was fitted with a cervical collar as a precaution and carried out of the arena on a backboard and promptly sent to the Washoe Medical Center for evaluation.Rob broke C7 and went for further evaluation once back home in Texas. He was operated on yesterday and is out for an indeterminate length of time.
They took a piece of bone from his hip to graft to his neck for a spinal fusion. Now comes recovery and therapy.Rob,who had announced he would retire at the PBR Finals this season may have to move that up.I pray he makes a full recovery and can end the season in good health but if not then I sure hope he gets a broadcast position. Get well,Rob.We all love you!
